The Emperor’s Tomb takes the reader from Denmark to Belgium to Vietnam to China, following a former American agent and his friend, a wealthy woman with a passion for archaeology and a mission to save a kidnapped boy: the lad an innocent victim of a power play between two men intent upon becoming the next leader of China, and among three separate factions intent upon controlling the outcome of that struggle.
Needless to say, the journey is fraught with intrigue and danger, and this fast-paced tale is told with compelling urgency, sumptuous descriptions of a nation shrouded in history and mystery, and complex characters whose motives are by no means clear.
If you enjoy Tom Clancy’s complicated, multi-character stories or Dan Brown’s convoluted tales, you’ll like Steve Berry’s novels as well.
